Judge Judy is a negotiating ninja. A beast of negotiating... if you will.I recently had this article shared with me outlining how Judge Judy has not only become one of the richest people in television, though one of the richest people on the planet.I had no idea.This is how the "negotiation" for her salary went down...
"We sit across the table, and I hand him [the president of CBS] the envelope and I say, 'Don't read it now, let's have a nice dinner. Call me tomorrow. You want it, fine. Otherwise, I'll produce it myself.' That's the negotiation".
"The envelope" contained a number inside. That number for her most recent negotiation was USD $47 million... or roughly $64 million in Australian dollars.This is how the process went down every few years.The only person to try something different was John Nogawski, the (at the time) president of CBS TV Distribution.
"John Nogawski came to the meeting at the Grill on the Alley, and I handed him my envelope, and he said, 'Judy, I have my own envelope,'" Sheindlin recounted. "And I said, 'I don't want to look at it.' He said, 'Why not? Maybe it's more than what's in your envelope.' And I said, 'Well, John, if I look at your envelope, it's a negotiation. This isn't a negotiation.'"
